2002-09-22 - 2:12 p.m. Todays my birthday. In Tashkent for email and visit. Three topics to write about. The first is my birthday. Last night I attended the Silk Road Choir at the Roman Catholic Church in Tashkent. It was nice and I went with eight PC friends. The day before this same group atteneded the signing of memo of understanding between minister of educ and PC director. I made the Uz. national news, but only in the background. Not as cool as signing autongraphs which i did the week before. the second topic is cotton. All HS student leave their families for one month, required by govern't and travel hours to fields to pick cotton. It supposedly sucks. I will attend this coming weekend and pick or teach or whatever. It is my self directed learning project which all PC trainees much have. I chose this because it sounded wild. No shelter, water or food out there for me, so I must bring it all. But i get a ride so hey that is posh. Finally, is PC trainee attitude. It has steadily decreased in the last five days, mainly to illness and fatigue, but also because the newness of everything is wearing off and now its for real. I am fine, but recovering from illness. I ran today and feel quite well. I'm still looking for the local weight room. Beyond this not too much else. I am excited for this week and reasdy to advance my language skills to where I can actually get into a real conversation with my family. I did see my fathers photo album, issued by the Russians in 1979 when he was in the army. IT was huge really detailed, and had lenins photo in every corner. Not his doing, but as part of the binder design. Later, kmg
